Undercover 3 > Undercover 3 [MP3 sound file]
My father worked in communications in the RAF, listening to the
Russians listening to the Americans. I grew up surrounded by radios and Morse
Code. This work eavedrops on my past. I used my telephone answering machine
during one week, a thunderstorm, radio, sonar, Morse Code and mobile
phones. This piece won joint first prize at the Oriel Davies Open 2006.
Sea Shifters > Sea Shifters [MP3 sound file]
This piece was made using rain/storms/a central heating
system/answering machines and telephones etc. The microphone picks up everything and is
not as discriminating as the eye. The microphone behaves almost like a God. Hears all.
I like to create oreder out of chaos. I will often reduce something to
ruins just so that I can rebuild it better. After the Tsunami we all felt powerless. There were helplines people could call for help and support. Acute discrimination has enabled me to extract what I need to form the
most ideal conclusion. Please hang up and try again. This piece won the Callaghan Fine Art Prize at The Shrewsbury Whittingham Riddle 2005.
